Travel is an integral part of our life, whether it be for pleasure, business, adventure, necessity or to visit friends or family. Ephemera 43 will focused on various aspects of travel, past, present and future — even imaginary. This rich topic allowed us to explore not just diverse destinations and activities, but travel planning, the modes of transportation and our memories.
Eight diverse presenters discussed the travel experience — not just the destinations, but also the promotion and planning, the voyage to and from, and the remembrances we bring home — through posters and broadsides, tickets, passports, menus, souvenirs, correspondence, itineraries, postcards, maps, and other forms of ephemera. Topics will included: The Arctic Regions in Ephemera; Travel Posters; Healing Springs and Medical Tourism; Travel and Tourism in Southern Appalachia; African American Baseball on the Road; Travel Ephemera in the Margolies Collection at the Library of Congress; the 1916 Maine Postcard Day; and Dudley P. Flanders 1874 “Trip Through Arizona.”
