Ephemera
Journal, Volume III
In March 1990, the Ephemera Society held its tenth anniversary
conference and fair in Greenwich, Connecticut. The National Valentine
Collectors Association joined in the society's festivities, and
their members arranged for a special exhibition, "The Ephemera of
Love," as part of the celebration.
We chose to produce a Valentine source book as 1990's Ephemera
Journal, particularly aware that two especially informative reference
works on the subject, The Valentine and Its Origins, by Frank Staff,
and A History of Valentines, by Ruth Webb Lee, were out of print.
Valentine collecting is a specialized branch of ephemera appreciation.
In addition, the manufacture of embossed and lace paper, the histories
of printers and illustrators, and the information about postal ratings
and markings all overlap a great many other collecting areas, including
invitations, rewards of merit, calling cards, private correspondence,
etc.
Black and white photocopy version available for $12.00 plus $1.50
for postage. Order from the Ephemera Society of America, PO Box
95, Cazenovia, NY 13035 or visit the online
store.
